Когда облако подводит: сбой AWS обнажил уязвимость криптоиндустрии Translation: Headline: When the cloud fails: AWS outage exposed the vulnerability of the crypto industry

A significant outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) resulted in the temporary shutdown of numerous online platforms. This disruption affected services such as Snapchat, Reddit, Hulu, gaming platforms, and cryptocurrency exchanges.

The issue stemmed from technical difficulties at the US-EAST-1 data center in the United States. The AWS team reported a «high error rate» in the API of the DynamoDB system, which processes hundreds of thousands of requests per second for streaming services, payment systems, and games.

As of the time of writing, platform representatives have reported «significant signs of recovery» and a gradual restoration of services to normal operations.

The Coinbase team announced a partial restoration of functionality for some users on their platform.

Robinhood stated that its trading services were «once again available and functioning properly.» Prior to this, users had reported difficulties accessing their accounts and making trades.

Trust Wallet also experienced temporary disruptions in trading and notifications but reassured users that their assets were secure.

This incident highlighted the cryptocurrency industry’s reliance on centralized infrastructure. Social media users pointed out the irony of a «decentralized platform being shut down due to an outage from a single cloud provider.»

As a reminder, in April, Binance resumed withdrawals that had been halted due to the AWS data center outage.
