The omnichain versions of the stablecoin USDT and tokenized gold XAUT from Tether have been launched on the Solana network. This integration has been accomplished through the Legacy Mesh protocol built on LayerZero.

Developers believe this will enhance Solana’s position as a settlement layer for on-chain finance and Real World Assets (RWA).

The assets USDT0 and XAUT0 are not issued directly by Tether. They belong to a third-party omnichain network that consolidates native USDT liquidity across various blockchains. Previously, USDT0 was deployed on networks such as Ethereum, OP Superchain, Polygon, TON, and Arbitrum.

The Legacy Mesh system enables interoperability by merging native liquidity pools of USDT. This allows for the direct transfer of stablecoins across networks without using wrapped tokens or third-party bridges. This approach addresses the issue of asset fragmentation and mitigates risks that remain relevant for multichain systems when utilizing external solutions.

According to company data, since its launch, more than $25 billion has traversed through USDT0 via 32,000 transactions. The total market capitalization of the USDT stablecoin is approximately $181 billion.

Tamar Menteshashvili, head of the stablecoin department at Solana Foundation, stated that this integration will support the growth of DeFi, payments, and institutional-level financial products on Solana. This specifically pertains to treasury management, remittances, and collateralized lending.

XAUT0 is the omnichain version of Tether Gold. This product translates physical gold onto the blockchain, endowing it with programmable features akin to digital assets such as Bitcoin.

Additionally, Bloomberg reporters have noted that Tether, along with its affiliated financial firm Antalpha, intends to raise $200 million for a structure that will establish a treasury in XAUT.
