Риски кризиса на фоне пузыря в ИИ-секторе: Банк Англии предупреждает о возможной коррекции рынка Headline: Crisis Risks Amid AI Sector Bubble: Bank of England Warns of Potential Market Correction

The monetary authority of the United Kingdom has issued a warning about the rising risks of a «sharp market correction» due to the overvaluation of AI companies and the threat to the independence of the Federal Reserve, according to Bloomberg.

In its quarterly financial stability report, the Bank of England observed that asset prices continue to rise while credit spreads are narrowing. This occurs against a backdrop of «substantial uncertainty regarding global macroeconomic prospects.»

The regulator believes that stock markets, particularly in the technology sector dealing with artificial intelligence, are overvalued. This segment is particularly vulnerable if «expectations regarding the impact of AI become less optimistic.»

Concerns about a potential bubble in the artificial intelligence sector have increased amid record growth of U.S. stocks: the Nasdaq 100 has gained 18% since the beginning of the year.

Market enthusiasm has drawn comparisons to the dot-com bubble of the late 1990s, which ended in a crash and a wave of bankruptcies. However, not all market participants share this pessimism. Analysts at Goldman Sachs suggest that investor sentiment indicators point to sustained optimism and expectations of further growth.

The Bank of England highlighted «significant bottlenecks» in the development of artificial intelligence that could impact company valuations. These include shortages of electricity, data, or resources and conceptual breakthroughs that may alter perceptions of the necessary infrastructure for AI operations.

Another threat comes from the Federal Reserve System in the United States. The independence of the regulator has come under pressure following attempts by Donald Trump to change the board’s composition and his ongoing criticisms of Jerome Powell and his monetary policy.

«The operational independence of the central bank is fundamental to financial stability. A sudden or significant change in perception of the Federal Reserve’s reliability could lead to a sharp revision of the value of dollar-denominated assets, including the U.S. government debt market, resulting in increased volatility, risk premiums, and a series of global consequences,» the minutes of the Financial Policy Committee meeting stated.

Such developments could have a negative impact on global markets, as borrowing costs in other countries often correlate with those in the U.S.

It is worth noting that in October, OpenAI became the most valuable private company in the world, with an estimated worth of $500 billion.
