Сингапур становится центром квантовых вычислений с запуском первого коммерческого квантового компьютера Translation: Singapore Becomes a Quantum Computing Hub with the Launch of Its First Commercial Quantum Computer

Singapore-based Horizon Quantum has unveiled the city-state’s inaugural quantum computer designed for commercial use. This information comes from an article on CNBC.

The company stated that the machine is fully operational, integrating components provided by Maybell Quantum, Quantum Machines, and Rigetti Computing.

Horizon Quantum claims to be the first firm exclusively focused on quantum software while owning its own computer.

“Our mission is to assist developers in utilizing this technology for practical applications,” noted company founder Joe Fitzsimons.

He further emphasized that while the firm specializes in software, understanding the underlying physics of this new computing paradigm is equally essential.

Founded in 2018, the startup concentrates on creating software and infrastructure for quantum computing systems.

Horizon Quantum aspires to leverage its hardware to streamline the development of real-world quantum applications across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and finance.

Quantum systems are intended to tackle problems too intricate for classical machines, such as drug discovery that requires modeling molecular interactions or evaluating millions of scenarios to assess risks. These processes are typically slow and resource-intensive on conventional computers.

Current quantum systems remain in the early stages of development, with experts offering varied predictions for the emergence of functional and reliable solutions. The cryptocurrency community harbors concerns regarding the technology’s advancements due to potential risks for the industry.

In December 2024, Pierre-Luc Dallaire-Demers, a researcher from the University of Calgary, stated that there are about five years left until commercial quantum computers will be able to crack elliptic curve keys that secure Bitcoin wallets.

Contrarily, renowned cypherpunk and cryptographer Adam Back believes that breakthroughs in this new type of computing will strengthen Bitcoin rather than undermine it.

Investments in the quantum computing sector are increasing as major tech companies announce significant advancements.

In February 2025, Amazon unveiled its first quantum computing chip, designed to enable the creation of highly efficient hardware systems.

In the same month, Microsoft announced its first semiconductor, Majorana 1, claiming to have created a completely new state of matter — a topological one.

In October, researchers from Google Quantum AI declared their achievement of «verifiable quantum supremacy» using the new Quantum Echoes algorithm run on a 105-qubit Willow processor.

Horizon Quantum is planning a merger with dMY Squared Technology Group to go public on Nasdaq under the ticker HQ. The deal is estimated to be worth approximately $503 million and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.

The launch of the quantum computer in Singapore bolsters the city-state’s ambitions to become a regional hub for such computing technologies. It has invested significantly in the technology over the years, with the first research center established in 2007.

Prior to Horizon Quantum’s system being deployed, Singapore had only one quantum computer, primarily utilized for research purposes. Meanwhile, Quantinuum plans to roll out another commercial solution in 2026.

Notably, in April, the quantum computing enterprise Origin Quantum utilized its advanced technology for breast cancer diagnosis and drug development.
