США формируют новый отряд офицеров по искусственному интеллекту для модернизации армии Translation: The USA is forming a new squad of artificial intelligence officers to modernize the military.

The United States Army has announced the establishment of a distinct specialization for officers focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning. This new path, designated as 49B, is set to launch in January.

The initiative aims to cultivate a team of experts who will expedite the transformation of the armed forces into a data-driven structure.

Professionals will be tasked with enhancing operational efficiency across multiple areas.

Any active officer is eligible to apply for a transfer, though priority will be given to candidates with relevant education or experience.

Selected participants will undergo advanced training (equivalent to a master’s level) and gain practical experience working with current artificial intelligence systems. The full retraining process is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

This decision follows the Pentagon’s launch of the GenAI.mil AI platform, built on Google’s Gemini model, earlier in December. The platform is designed for the lawful and secure application of neural networks in defense tasks.

The creation of GenAI.mil is part of a plan introduced in July by the administration of former President Donald Trump, which mandates federal agencies to accelerate the implementation of advanced AI systems.

It’s noteworthy that in 2024, 200 employees from Google’s AI division, DeepMind, expressed dissatisfaction with the tech giant’s involvement in military initiatives.
