Summer McIntosh Reflects on 800m Final at 2025 World Championships: A Lesson Learned

Three-time Olympic champion and Canadian swimmer **[Summer MacIntosh](https://www.worldaquatics.com/news/4332192/katie-ledecky-conquers-her-greatest-challenge-yet-in-800m-world-title-7)** reflected on her performance in the 800m freestyle at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. MacIntosh secured a bronze medal in this event.

«I probably overthought the fact that Katie was swimming next to me. I tried to keep up with her and not let her get too far ahead, instead of just focusing on my own race plan. In the heats, I swam a time of 8:05, but I felt much more fatigued here.

I believe this has been an important lesson for me. I’m experiencing a strong flashback to the 400m freestyle in Fukuoka (*at the World Championships in Fukuoka in 2023, MacIntosh finished fourth — Note from ‘Championat’*). It will definitely take some time since this is a new distance for me, and I have a lot to learn. Let’s see where this journey takes me in the coming years leading up to the Olympics in Los Angeles,» MacIntosh’s words were shared by the press service of **World Aquatics**.
