Max Messenger Developers Deny User Surveillance Claims Through Camera Activation

The creators of the Russian messenger Max have stated that the app does not engage in unauthorized activation of users’ device cameras. This information was shared by the developers during a conversation with RBC.

According to them, the camera in Max is activated only upon user request—such as during video calls. At all other times, the app does not have access to the camera.

Previously, many IT experts criticized the Max app, pointing out that the messenger collects an excessive amount of various data about users and their actions within the program. The developers have not yet commented on this information. The full launch of Max is scheduled for the fall.
