Swiatek Reflects on Match Against Lamens: Struggled in Second Set, Opponent Capitalized on Opportunities

Six-time Grand Slam champion and world number two, Polish tennis player **Iga Swiatek**, shared her thoughts on her second-round match at the **2025 US Open** against Dutch player **Suzan Lamens**. Swiatek triumphed with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

**»How did you manage to win the third set?»**
**»I started off better than in the previous sets. I aimed to be more confident on my serve and took some risks. I’m pleased that I was able to close it out quickly, even though I dropped one break. It was still a challenging match, and I made some mistakes. So, I’m happy that I could play more actively towards the end,»** Swiatek remarked after the match.

**»How difficult is it when you win the first set 6-1, and your opponent steps up, forcing you to find something new within yourself?»**
**»I felt that a lot depended on me — whether I would make mistakes or not. There were moments when I did falter. I think I tightened up a bit in the second set. My opponent capitalized on the opportunities she had. It wasn’t easy. But the third set felt like a reset; I needed to start fresh. I was aware that I could push myself a bit more and play more accurately. So, that’s what I focused on,”** Swiatek added in her on-court interview following the match.
