Bäcklund Extends Contract with Flames: Swedish Forward Celebrates 17 Years and 1,066 Games with Calgary

The Calgary Flames’ press office announced that they have extended the contract of captain and Swedish forward Mikael Backlund for another two years. The cap hit of the agreement is $3.25 million.

Backlund has spent his entire NHL career with the Flames, playing 1,066 games, making him the longest-tenured active player on the team. During the last season, he played 76 games, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists, totaling 32 points. The 36-year-old forward has accumulated 563 points (215 goals and 348 assists) throughout his NHL career.

Backlund was selected by the Calgary Flames in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft, going 24th overall.

Additionally, the Flames recently extended the contract of goaltender Dustin Wolf.
