DOOM: The Dark Ages Patch 2.2 Brings Steam Deck Support and Major Enhancements

A fresh patch numbered 2.2 for DOOM: The Dark Ages has been released across all platforms. The developers at id Software have added support for the Steam Deck, while also fixing numerous bugs and enhancing the game’s performance and stability.

With this update, The Dark Ages has achieved official “green light” status for Steam Deck, indicating complete compatibility with Valve’s portable device. Upon its initial launch, the game will automatically adjust to optimal settings, which can subsequently be customized by the player. New options for fine-tuning settings and a dedicated benchmarking mode for handheld PC users have also been introduced.

The patch also addresses a series of glitches found in levels, boss fights, and the damage calculation system. Developers have resolved instances of enemies respawning endlessly, eliminated rare crashes, and made adjustments to the shield mechanics and melee damage.

Balance changes include a reduction in damage from attacks by large demons, such as the «Hell Knight» and «Cyber Baron»—leading to player shields no longer breaking from a single hit on higher difficulty levels. The Brink of Death system, which allows players to survive after taking lethal damage, has been adjusted to be more akin to the version presented at launch.

Additionally, the update enhances audio, interface, and visual effects. Developers have addressed issues with special effects, animations, and collectible items, as well as implemented improvements for the Ripatorium mode.

The updated DOOM: The Dark Ages is now available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), as well as Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, featuring full Russian localization. The game is also available through the Game Pass subscription.
