SpaceX возобновляет активность в криптовалюте, переводя $257 млн в биткоинах Translation: SpaceX Resumes Cryptocurrency Activity, Moving $257 Million in Bitcoin

Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has transferred its first cryptocurrency amounting to $257 million, as noted by analysts from Lookonchain.

The firm moved 1,298 BTC (valued at $139 million) and 1,197 BTC (worth $128 million) to two separate wallets. The receiving addresses have not since transacted any of the coins.

SpaceX has not provided any comments regarding the reasons for these transfers.

The last time Musk’s firm engaged with cryptocurrency was in July, when it sent 1,308 BTC valued at $152 million to an unidentified wallet. Prior to this, the company had only moved assets in June 2022.

According to Arkham, at the time of writing, SpaceX holds 5,790 BTC worth $630 million at the current exchange rate.

The aerospace manufacturer first disclosed its Bitcoin holdings in July 2021 alongside another Musk company—Tesla, which then purchased the cryptocurrency for $1.5 billion.

On October 14, Musk made remarks about the economic model of the first cryptocurrency in terms of energy efficiency. His comments were in response to a post by a user named zerohedge, stating that «money can be printed, but energy cannot.»

«Correct. That’s why Bitcoin is energy-based: fake fiat money can be produced, as every government has done in history, but it’s impossible to counterfeit energy,» the billionaire wrote.

Interestingly, in 2021, Tesla paused accepting payments in Bitcoin due to the environmental damage caused by mining. This statement led to a market crash.

Musk vowed to reinstate this payment option when the share of renewable energy in Bitcoin mining increases.

According to Cambridge, by 2025, the share is expected to surpass 52%. Cointelegraph, citing climate investor Daniel Batten and analyst Willy Woo, reported a record figure of 55%.

However, Tesla has yet to resume accepting Bitcoin for vehicle purchases.

It is worth noting that at the beginning of 2024, Musk suggested the possibility of using cryptocurrencies as a currency on Mars.
