Ukrainian Energy Strikes Disable Power for Over 20,000 Across Russian Border Regions

Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure left over 20,000 individuals without electricity in border areas on Sunday, according to local officials.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Governor of Belgorod region, noted that the power and heating supply system in the regional capital has sustained considerable damage. He shared on Telegram that «multiple streets are experiencing power outages… More than 20,000 residents are currently without electricity.»

In the adjacent Kursk region, Governor Alexander Khinshtein reported on Telegram that «a fire erupted at one of the power plants in the village of Korenevo,» resulting in power outages across 10 municipalities.

Additionally, in the southern Voronezh region, a fire broke out at a heating facility, as reported by Governor Alexander Gusev.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 44 Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk border area.

On Saturday, Russian assaults on energy infrastructure forced Ukraine to work urgently to restore lighting and heating, with the national power company indicating that its generation capacity had dropped to «zero» on Sunday.

The attacks inflicted significant damage on Ukrainian power facilities and led to at least four fatalities.

In recent months, Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure, launching 69 drones at energy sites across the country overnight into Sunday, with the Ukrainian air force confirming that 34 of them were intercepted.
