Ukraine Imposes Sanctions on Putins Economic Envoy Kirill Dmitriev Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukraine has added Kirill Dmitriev, the economic envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to its list of individuals under sanctions for alleged crimes against the nation.

The Ukrainian presidential office stated on Sunday that the sanctions against Dmitriev were due to his role in «disseminating propaganda and facilitating Russian investments in crucial sectors of foreign economies.»

Dmitriev, a native of Kyiv, serves as the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and participates in Russia’s negotiation teams with both the United States and Ukraine.

He traveled to the U.S. last month during a time of growing frustration from President Donald Trump over Putin’s refusal to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine.

In response to the sanctions imposed by Ukraine, Dmitriev took to Telegram to express his sarcasm, referring to the measures as one of two «honors» he received over the weekend.

In addition to Dmitriev, Ukraine’s recent sanctions also include fellow negotiator Alexander Zorin, as well as Russia’s Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut, Deputy Education Minister Alexander Bugayev, and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Andrei Omelchuk.

The statement from Ukraine’s presidency accused those sanctioned of «misappropriating agricultural assets, grain harvests, and cultural heritage, as well as executing information operations against our state» while imposing an education system with anti-Ukrainian messaging in occupied regions.

Moreover, in a separate order, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also imposed sanctions on five Russian publishing houses that are alleged to have been involved in promoting propaganda and supporting the full-scale invasion.
