Пользователь случайно переплатил за биткоин-транзакцию: комиссия в $105 197 на сумму всего $10 Translation: Headline: User Accidentally Overpays for Bitcoin Transaction: $105,197 Fee for Just $10

On November 11, an unidentified market participant inadvertently paid a staggering $105,197 in fees while transferring the first cryptocurrency amounting to $10. This caught the attention of users on X.

According to data from Mempool, the sender transmitted 0.00010036 BTC with a fee set at 1.026 BTC. With an average transaction cost of around $0.59, the fee for a $10 transfer should have been approximately $0.20.

Scott Norris, the CEO of the mining company Optiminer, suggested that the user may have overlooked the fee.

“It’s not that complicated—many wallets allow for arbitrary values. It’s hard to say whether this was an accident or intentional,” he remarked in a comment to Decrypt.

At the time of the transaction, the price of the first cryptocurrency was $103,000. Currently, the asset is trading around $104,700.

In April, another user paid approximately 0.75 BTC (~$59,204) in fees while trying to replace an already sent but unconfirmed transaction with a new one that had a higher value.

A similar incident occurred with a participant in the Ethereum network—when transferring 0.88 ETH worth ~$2,262, they spent 34 ETH (~$89,239) on gas fees.

In September 2023, an unknown individual paid $510,000 in fees for a transfer of 0.074 BTC.

In November of the same year, a user lost a record-setting 83.65 BTC ($3.1 million) in transaction fees. Later, they claimed to have been a victim of a hacker attack.

To support their claim, the user signed a message from the Bitcoin address in question, which was subsequently verified by Mononaut, a developer of the Mempool tool, as well as Jameson Lopp, co-founder and CTO of Casa.

It’s worth noting that the mining pool AntPool, which received the multi-million fee, stated its willingness to refund it.
