Tragedy in Moscow: Mental Health Clinic Workers Arrested as Patient Suffers Severe Injury and Amputation

Russian law enforcement has apprehended two employees of a mental health facility in Moscow following a severe incident that resulted in a 20-year-old female patient losing both her hands, according to municipal deputy Roman Galenkin, who has been closely monitoring the situation.

The staff members are accused of improperly restraining the woman, who has disabilities, which restricted blood flow and ultimately led to the amputation of her wrists, as stated by Russia’s Investigative Committee.

Galenkin, who serves the Obruchevsky district where the state-operated clinic is situated, noted that the incident occurred in mid-October and has sparked significant outrage among local residents.

In a Telegram message posted on October 31, he mentioned that the young woman was “unable to summon help or defend herself.”

On Wednesday, Galenkin reported that state prosecutors visited the facility in the morning and detained the two staff members who were on duty at that time.

Additionally, the director of the Obruchevsky clinic has been dismissed from their position after less than six months in the role, as stated by Galenkin.

In a previous post, he detailed how the staff allegedly used woolen tights to tie the young woman’s hands rather than appropriate medical restraints, leaving severe marks on her wrists. By the morning of October 14, when staff finally became aware of her condition, she had already developed gangrene.

The Investigative Committee, which examines significant criminal cases, announced on Monday that it had filed charges for “inflicting grievous bodily harm,” which carries a potential penalty of up to one year in prison.

Police have not yet issued a statement regarding the arrests highlighted by Galenkin.
