Take-Two CEO: PC Gaming on the Rise, but Consoles Are Here to Stay

The age-old debate of «PC or consoles» has taken a new turn: in a conversation with CNBC, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the gaming industry is likely to gravitate towards open platforms over the next decade.

According to Zelnick, PC gaming is increasingly gaining traction, but it would be a mistake to assume that consoles, as examples of closed systems, will fade away.

Zelnick’s perspective is supported by current industry developments. For instance, Microsoft is preparing a new generation of consoles while insisting that «everything can be Xbox.» Meanwhile, Valve has unveiled a new Steam Machine—a device that resembles a console but is, in fact, a compact PC.

Despite these insights, Take-Two is in no hurry to announce Grand Theft Auto VI for any platform other than its primary ones—so far, the game is only confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The release date has once again been postponed, now set for November 19, 2026.
