Sledgehammer Games Seeks Developers Experienced with Nintendo Switch for Upcoming Projects

To persuade regulators to approve the deal with Activision Blizzard, Microsoft entered into a decade-long agreement with Nintendo to release Call of Duty on the company’s consoles. Nearly three years have passed, yet the game still hasn’t made its way to even the Switch 2. However, there is finally some movement on this front—Sledgehammer Games has posted job openings indicating progress.

The studio, which has contributed to several recent Call of Duty titles, is seeking professionals with experience in «Nintendo Switch or AAA mobile game development,» as this expertise would be beneficial for applicants.

For now, it’s uncertain whether the team is preparing to launch their own Call of Duty title on Nintendo consoles or if they will focus on porting an existing game, such as Black Ops 7. According to reports, Sledgehammer Games’ iteration of the franchise might not be released until 2027.

The last installment of Call of Duty for a Nintendo platform was in 2013, which was Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U. Since then, the series has overlooked the Switch due to the console’s technical limitations. With the arrival of the Switch 2, developers now have more freedom to create, and it is anticipated that they will start to meet the terms of the agreement.

Currently, the most relevant title in the Call of Duty series is Black Ops 7, available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), PlayStation, and Xbox, including Game Pass. The game has only had its text translated into Russian. Based on reviews, sales charts, and expert analysis, the new installment is performing moderately. For instance, initial sales of Black Ops 7 in Europe were 63% lower than those of Battlefield 6.
