Zavarukhin Reflects on Automobilists Victory Over Severstal in KHL Match

Head coach of «Avtomobilist,» **[Nikolai Zavarukhin](https://example.com)**, shared his thoughts on the victory over «Severstal» (4-1) in a regular-season match of the Kontinental Hockey League.

— I’m thrilled to celebrate our 500th win in the KHL. It’s been a while since we last beat «Severstal,» a quick team that excels at maintaining puck possession through quick passes. We capitalized on our opportunities today, and the impressive debut of Nikita Novoselov played a significant role in our success. The turning point was when Romantsev drew a penalty shot while shorthanded, which Bushe successfully converted.

— Was the key to victory the thorough preparation for the opponent? Did you analyze «Severstal» effectively?
— The guys executed the game plan exceptionally well, resulting in fewer counterattacks. We had solid play in the neutral zone. Novoselov performed brilliantly, making crucial saves, and his teammates supported him during rebounds.

— How would you assess Novoselov’s performance?
— The young man had a fantastic game, and we gave him the opportunity he deserved. It’s no coincidence that he is one of the top goalies in the VHL. We’ll discuss with the goalie coach about the next steps.

— The power play seems to be struggling; Bushe still hasn’t scored any goals during five-on-four opportunities this season. What’s the issue?
— We’re searching for chances, and there are plenty, but sometimes «things just happen,» like a stick breaking. We need to improve in that area; there are players capable of executing. We need to find ways to connect with Bushe better. In his previous team, he had a lot of attention on him, and opponents know he’s a shooting threat, which allows them to focus more closely on him. We’re looking for someone who can make that hidden pass to him.

— What are the plans during the league break? Will all players from the extended roster join the national team?
— Yes, everyone will participate. I hope Vova Galkin recovers from his illness and can go as well. Busegin and Yudin will also participate, while Karpovich and Gorbunov will join the Belarusian national team. The rest will have four days off, and then the team will return to Ekaterinburg to prepare for the next challenges, — Zavarukhin’s comments are relayed by Championship correspondent Rodion Vlasov.
