12 лет Dogecoin: мем-криптовалюта в красной зоне, но с поддержкой Илона Маска 12 years of Dogecoin: meme cryptocurrency in the red zone, but with Elon Musks support

On December 6th, Dogecoin (DOGE), the leading meme cryptocurrency, celebrated its 12th anniversary since its launch.

The coin was created in 2013 by developer Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, a sales employee at Adobe Systems, who aimed to have a lighthearted joke about the rapidly increasing number of digital assets.

Over the years, this token, initially launched for fun, evolved into one of the top cryptocurrencies. On May 8, 2021, DOGE reached an all-time high of $0.73, with its market capitalization soaring to $88.7 billion.

This anniversary finds the pioneer of the meme token sector facing a 3.1% drop in value over the past day, while Bitcoin and the broader market experienced a loss of about 1.8%.

Currently, DOGE is trading near $0.14, maintaining its position in the top 10 by market capitalization at around $22.5 billion.

The project’s X account description states, «Elon Musk thinks we’re cool.» Indeed, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has been a supporter of DOGE for many years.

In January, the coin’s value surged by 11% after its logo was featured on the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency website, a U.S. government initiative led by Musk, created under President Donald Trump’s directive.

The news outlet dogegod reported that Tesla’s updated internal website code includes «deeper payment mechanisms for Dogecoin» for electric vehicles like the Model 3 and Cybertruck. The channel’s authors suggested this indicates the forthcoming launch of an option possibly related to the newly announced XMoney payment system on the X platform.

It’s worth noting that experts considered the debut of the first Bitcoin spot ETF for DOGE from Grayscale at the end of November to be «unexpectedly modest,» with an initial trading influx of $1.8 million on the first day.
