Student Attacks Teacher Over Poor Grade in St. Petersburg High School Incident

A ninth-grade student was involved in a stabbing incident at a high school in St. Petersburg on Monday, attacking a teacher after receiving a disappointing grade, according to Russian law enforcement officials.

The unnamed student reportedly used a knife to assault his 29-year-old teacher within the school premises, as stated by the St. Petersburg branch of the Interior Ministry.

«It is believed that the attack was instigated by the student’s dissatisfaction with his academic performance,» the ministry conveyed. Following the incident, the student attempted to take his own life but was intercepted by officers.

The Investigative Committee of Russia, which handles serious criminal cases, announced that it has commenced an investigation into attempted murder, confirming that the teacher suffered multiple stab wounds.

Both the student and the teacher were transported to the hospital, where they were deemed to be in serious but stable condition, as reported by the local news outlet Fontanka.

Reports identified the teacher as Maria Andreyeva, a mathematics teacher at School No. 191, while the student was recognized as the child of a history teacher at the same institution.

Fontanka also highlighted social media claims that the student was not adequately searched despite metal detectors apparently indicating the presence of a knife at the school’s entrance. Authorities have not yet made any public statements regarding these claims.

Despite the incident, classes reportedly resumed, although some parents opted to collect their children early.
