Ugozaev Shares Insight Behind His Choice of Five Quad Jumps at the Russian Championships in St. Petersburg

Figure skater Nikolai Ugozaev shared insights regarding his choice to perform quadruple jumps in the free program at the 2025 Russian Championship held in Saint Petersburg. Ugozaev scored 155.56 points for his performance, totaling 245.13 points across both segments.

«I’m disappointed about the Rittberger and the Axel. Overall, it was a workable performance. I certainly wished for a better result. The Axel at the end let me down; it didn’t work out during the warm-up, and it didn’t go well in the program either. Competing on the final day is a bit more challenging, but not by much. I’m more accustomed to performing on back-to-back days, but it doesn’t really matter. I trained, took a walk, and recovered; nothing special.

I decided to go for five quadruple jumps back in Krasnoyarsk after the Grand Prix stage, while I was training. At that moment, I resolved to execute everything. I have no regrets; I felt prepared. My coaches and I will review the performance and analyze it, but not today.

Looking ahead, my immediate plans include the Grand Prix final, I hope to participate in the Saint Petersburg Championship and the Jumping Championships, if they take place. There are also shows coming up, including the governor’s New Year celebrations and the «Cinderella» show. I won’t disclose which character I’ll be portraying,» Ugozaev’s words are conveyed by Championship correspondent Anastasia Matrosova.
