Slay the Spire Surges to New Peak Online Players on Steam After Nearly Seven Years

The card-based roguelike Slay the Spire officially launched out of early access in January 2019. Despite its age, the game continues to thrive, recently setting a new record for player attendance on Steam.

According to SteamDB, on December 24th, «Slay the Spire» attracted 54,253 players, marking the highest attendance for this roguelike since its debut on Valve‘s platform. This surge in popularity is likely due to a 90% discount, allowing players to expand their collection in Gabe Newell‘s store for just 99 rubles.

In Slay the Spire, players choose a hero and embark on a quest through a tower filled with monsters. The journey is guided by a straightforward map where players select their destination, be it a merchant’s shop, a campsite, or a battlefield. During combat, players utilize cards with various abilities. The objective is to build a powerful deck and defeat all the bosses.

In 2019, our author Kiril Voloshin awarded the studio Mega Crit a score of “Amazing.” The reviewer was captivated by the game’s apparent simplicity and the depth that lies beneath it.
