Netflixs Assassins Creed Series to Be Directed by Chernobyls Johan Renck

According to Variety, the Netflix series based on Assassin’s Creed has found its director: Swedish filmmaker Johan Renck has taken on the role. Renck is known for directing the miniseries Chernobyl for HBO, as well as several episodes of Breaking Bad.

It remains unclear whether Renck will be the sole director for all episodes of the series or if he will be joined by additional directors. For the aforementioned Chernobyl, Renck directed all five episodes himself, earning an Emmy for his work.

Let us remind you that the live-action Assassin’s Creed series was first announced back in 2020, but only recently have there been significant updates regarding its progress. While the plot details are being kept under wraps, it is known that the story will revolve around the secret conflict between two factions—the Assassins and the Templars.

Casting is currently underway, with confirmed actors including Toby Wallace (Riders) and Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing), who have secured the lead roles, along with Zachary Hart (Slow Horses) and Laura Marcus (Struck by Lightning).

Filming for the adaptation is set to begin in 2026 in Italy, but a release date for the streaming platform has yet to be announced.
