Russia Cautions Citizens Against Visiting Venezuela Amid U.S. Military Action Against Maduro

On Monday, Russia advised its citizens against traveling to Venezuela following a surprise military operation by the United States that targeted leader Nicolás Maduro in Caracas.

In an announcement, the Economic Development Ministry highlighted potential dangers to personal safety in Venezuela, citing «armed aggression by the United States… and the possibility of further assaults.»

Russian nationals currently in Venezuela were urged to remain vigilant and stay updated on official communications from local authorities and Russian diplomatic representatives.

The ministry also suggested that travel agencies and tour operators halt the sale of travel packages to Venezuela and keep Russian tourists informed about the ongoing situation and the conditions for canceling their bookings.

Additionally, it stated that Russian travelers could seek to cancel their existing travel arrangements and request a full refund in light of the current circumstances.

The Foreign Ministry issued a similar advisory, strongly encouraging Russian citizens to avoid traveling to Venezuela unless it was absolutely necessary.

On Saturday, the Foreign Ministry had called for the release of Maduro and his spouse, condemning the action as an «unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent nation.»

Russia’s Embassy in Caracas reported that it was functioning normally and maintained regular communication with both Venezuelan authorities and Russian citizens in the region.

The embassy stated that there were no reports of injuries among Russian citizens due to the attacks on Saturday.
