Sundin Celebrates Matthews Historic Goal-Scoring Milestone with Toronto Maple Leafs

Hockey legend and Hall of Famer Mats Sundin extended his congratulations to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews for breaking his record as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.

«Auston, congratulations on surpassing my record. You’ll gain even more appreciation for this achievement when your career comes to a close. This is an important milestone, and I wish you the best in your pursuit of a championship with the Toronto Maple Leafs,» Sundin said, according to the official NHL website.

Matthews scored twice in a regular season game against the New York Islanders (3-4 OT), thereby etching his name in the club’s history. He now has 421 goals, surpassing Sundin, who previously held the record with 420. Matthews reached this milestone in 664 games, while Sundin accomplished it in 981.
