Gas Explosion in Tver Misattributed to Drone Attack

A gas explosion early Tuesday in an apartment building in the Russian city of Tver resulted in one fatality, according to regional officials, who had initially attributed the incident to a Ukrainian drone strike.

Vitaly Korolev, the Governor of Tver, announced on Telegram that «the initial assessment from experts indicates that the explosion was due to household gas.»

He further explained, «At first, the explosion was misidentified as being caused by falling debris from a drone, as defensive measures against attacks were indeed underway in the area at that time.»

Such incidents related to domestic gas and fires are not rare in Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight in approximately 20 regions, including six above Tver.

Previously, last month, debris from a Ukrainian drone ignited a fire in an apartment complex in Tver, located about 180 kilometers (110 miles) from Moscow, resulting in injuries to seven individuals.
