Directors Vision: A Bold New Take on The Mummy Promises Unique Storytelling Elements

Director Lee Cronin, known for the horror film «Evil Dead Rise,» has shared insights about his upcoming reboot of «The Mummy.» In a recent interview, he asserted that his take on the iconic story will diverge significantly from previous adaptations featuring Brendan Fraser and Tom Cruise.

Cronin describes his project as an unusual blend of genres: “one part ‘Poltergeist’ and one part ‘Se7en’, but filtered through my perspective.” He aims to merge family drama with a dark, detective thriller.

The storyline will shift its focus away from the typical pharaoh tombs, exploring deeper and lesser-known aspects of mummification. The director posed a provocative question: what if the mummy is not a ruler, but an ordinary person whose body has been preserved for a more sinister purpose?

The filmmaker also promised authenticity: the film will feature an Egyptian cast (including May El-Gheat and May Kalamawy), with some dialogue spoken in Arabic. The new «Mummy» is set to premiere on April 17, 2026.
