Aces of Thunder: New Air Combat Simulator from Gaijin Set to Launch on February 3, 2026

Gaijin Entertainment has announced the release date for  Aces of Thunder, a virtual reality flight combat simulator set to launch on February 3, 2026. Players will have the option to fly in both VR mode and on a traditional flat screen.

This project emphasizes deep immersion and realism. The developers are incorporating flight models and damage systems familiar from  War Thunder, adapting them to a cockpit perspective. Players can pilot aircraft using a HOTAS setup, gamepad, or VR controllers.

Aces of Thunder will feature an impressive array of aircraft—not in the thousands like some military titles, but still offering a satisfying selection. The game includes over 20 World War II planes, such as the P-51 Mustang, Bf 109, Fw 190, Il-2, Yak-9T, Spitfire, and A6M3 Zero. Additionally, it will showcase World War I fighters, ranging from the Fokker Dr.I to the SPAD S.XIII, famously flown by Ace of the Allies René Fonck.

Fights will take place across 15 maps that cover critical theaters of war. Players will traverse Western and Eastern Europe, the Pacific region, and the fronts of World War I. Each location replicates the distinctive conditions of its respective time and place.

Aces of Thunder promises both online battles and solo missions for skill practice. Between sorties, players can explore their aircraft in the hangar, examine cockpits, and prepare for upcoming engagements.

The developers have placed a special emphasis on VR integration. Support for OpenXR makes a diverse range of virtual reality headsets compatible. Although the game is primarily designed with VR in mind, it remains accessible for fans of traditional flight simulators who do not have specialized VR equipment.

Gamers on PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5 will have the opportunity to showcase their aerial skills in Aces of Thunder. The developers also promise a Russian language text translation.
