Anisimova Joins Elite Ranks by Reaching Wimbledon Final, Following in the Footsteps of Bartoli, Lisicki, and Harrison

American tennis player Amanda Anisimova has become the fourth player in the history of the WTA Tour since 1990 to defeat the world number one and reach her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon.

On July 10, Anisimova triumphed over Aryna Sabalenka in the Wimbledon 2025 semi-final with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The 23-year-old is set to play in her inaugural Grand Slam final.

«Since 1990, Amanda Anisimova has become the fourth player to take down the world’s top-ranked player at Wimbledon and advance to her first Grand Slam final, following in the footsteps of Zina Garrison (1990), Marion Bartoli (2007), and Sabine Lisicki (2013),» reported the statistical website Opta.

In the final, Anisimova will face off against the winner of the match between Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) and Iga Swiatek (Poland, ranked 8th).

The women’s singles matches at Wimbledon 2025 are taking place from June 30 to July 12. The reigning champion of the tournament is Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic.
