Battlefield REDSEC Receives a Cold Reception: Gamers Demand a Return to True Battlefield Roots

**Electronic Arts** has long been attempting to incorporate trendy formats into **Battlefield**, yet all these efforts have met with failure so far. In 2018, it was the battle royale mode **Firestorm** in **Battlefield V** that players quickly forgot. Then, in 2021, the company tried again with the extraction mode **Hazard Zone** in **Battlefield 2042**, which faded away even faster than **Firestorm**. As of yesterday, **Battlefield 6** now features another trendy mode; however, it seems that players aren’t particularly thrilled about it.

The free battle royale **Battlefield REDSEC** was met with notable skepticism from gamers. At the time of writing, the «battle royale» has only received 39% positive reviews on Steam.

The reviews are predominantly filled with disappointment. Many believe that **EA** and **DICE** have once again chosen to mimic **Call of Duty**, neglecting their roots. Players are frustrated that instead of enhancing the core **Battlefield 6**, developers are allocating resources to yet another battle royale—a genre that many already deem dead.

One major complaint concerns the sound—players describe it as «messy» and lacking clarity, allowing enemies to sneak up silently while gunfire can be delayed or completely inaudible. The situation is exacerbated by frequent freezes, bugs, «deaths through walls,» and black screens. Optimization issues have also attracted criticism. Additionally, users are still irritated by the requirement to enable **Secure Boot**.

Gameplay is characterized as poorly balanced and frustrating. The «royale» lacks a solo mode, and players cannot disable team auto-fill, forcing them to team up with «randoms,» which often results in chaotic matches. Loot is scarce on the map, shooting feels imprecise due to a high bullet spread while aiming and hit registration problems. Combat visuals obscure players’ views. Moreover, the time-to-kill (TTK) is alarmingly short, with players dying within fractions of a second before they can react.

Gamers are particularly irritated by how **REDSEC** is pushed through the progression system. Many state that half of the tasks in the battle pass and weekly missions are tied to the battle royale, even for those who wish to play the traditional **Battlefield**. This decision is viewed as disrespectful to the audience and a forced promotion of an unpopular mode.

Nonetheless, it’s not entirely devoid of positive feedback. Some players appreciate the atmosphere, expansive map, and the slower, more thoughtful pace of battles compared to **Apex Legends** or **Call of Duty: Warzone**. They commend the balance between vehicles and infantry, as well as the destructible environments that add depth. A new activity called **Gauntlet** has also intrigued many due to its originality. Optimists believe that if developers consistently support the project with updates and develop the concept, it could evolve into something worthwhile.

However, the overall sentiment remains bleak. Many feel that the developers of **Battlefield** are once again following trends instead of creating something unique and valuable. Players are weary of experiments with trendy formats and desire a return to what originally made the series beloved—large-scale battles, thoughtfully designed maps, and a genuine sense of warfare, rather than clones of **Warzone** plagued by bugs and poor audio.
