Circle опроверг фейковый пресс-релиз о запуске CircleMetals и предостерег от мошенничества Translation: Circle refutes fake press release about the launch of CircleMetals and warns against fraud.

On December 24, a false press release circulated online announcing a new initiative from Circle named CircleMetals, aimed at trading tokenized gold and silver.

In a conversation with CoinDesk, representatives of the USDC co-issuer confirmed that the information was inaccurate.

CircleMetals was allegedly designed to allow users to swap stablecoins for digital representations of precious metals. It attracted users with promised rewards in a non-existent native token for engaging with the platform.

The release even «quoted» Circle’s CEO Jeremy Allaire and other company executives.

Additionally, the press release included a link to a website where users were immediately prompted to connect their wallets.

Initially, the article featuring the fake announcement was posted on the Circle community forum but was promptly removed. It later resurfaced on various websites, including the corporate platform Chainwire.

At the time of writing, all materials related to CircleMetals, including the website, are unavailable.

The Circle team issued a separate post warning about increased scams during the holiday season.

“Please be vigilant and cautious—verify the legitimacy of requests before taking any actions, particularly when asked to connect your wallet. If in doubt, double-check,” the message stated.

It’s worth noting that in November, criminals had used a public channel to communicate with Australia’s cyber police to defraud local residents of their digital assets.
