Elon Musk Announces Grok 4 Launching Soon After July 4th, Formerly Known as Grok 3.5

Elon Musk continues to serve as the marketing manager for Grok and recently shared updates about the new version of the model on his platform, X. According to him, the team at xAI is working around the clock, and they are preparing for another significant training run, during which the model will be trained to write code. The official name of the upcoming version is Grok 4 (previously referred to as Grok 3.5), with a release planned shortly after July 4.

It’s worth noting that Musk often makes somewhat ambiguous statements regarding Grok, and not all of them turn out to be accurate. For instance, during the launch of Grok 3, he claimed that xAI had figured out a way to regularly update the model, which would allow it to «constantly become smarter.» This has not happened; the Grok 3 version remains unchanged since its debut in late February.

On April 29, Elon Musk announced Grok 3.5 for the first time, asserting that it would be the first AI capable of reasoning from first principles and solving problems for which no answers exist online. Musk promised that the model would be released «next week,» but this did not materialize, and he later had to clarify that Grok 3.5 needed further refinement.

Recently, Musk made another bold claim:

He stated that Grok 4 will be utilized to rewrite «the entire body of human knowledge» (presumably referring to the training data for the model), correcting inaccuracies and filling in gaps. Following this, the model will be retrained on this new dataset. However, it remains unclear whether he was talking about Grok 4, set to release in July, or future models from xAI.

Additionally, a new product from OpenAI — ChatGPT-5 — is also anticipated to launch in July. This information has been reported by multiple insiders, including Tibor Blaho, the creator of the prompt manager for ChatGPT and Claude, who has accurately predicted previous OpenAI releases. On June 19, Sam Altman mentioned during an OpenAI podcast that ChatGPT-5 is expected to be released in the summer, but he did not provide a specific date, noting that it might change based on testing outcomes.
