Former Assassins Creed Head Reveals Departure from Ubisoft Was Not His Choice

**Marc-Alexis Côté** worked on the **Assassin’s Creed** series in various capacities for over 20 years, eventually becoming the head of the entire franchise in 2022. Recently, it was reported that **Côté** has left his position, and he has since clarified that he was compelled to do so.

In an internal memo, the leadership of the newly established **Vantage Studios**—a division of **Ubisoft** that has taken over the franchises of **Assassin’s Creed**, **Far Cry**, and **Rainbow Six**—indicated that **Côté** was offered a senior role in the new studio but declined the offer and departed from the company instead.

Three days after this news broke, **Marc-Alexis Côté** shared his perspective on the situation. He expressed gratitude to former colleagues who reached out with kind words and noted that many were surprised by his decision to leave **Ubisoft**. However, according to **Côté**, this narrative isn’t entirely accurate, as he would not have chosen to resign from his previous role.

Following this, the former leader emphasized that he holds no ill will towards **Ubisoft**, as he spent a significant part of his career there. The company connected him with talented individuals, allowing him to create incredible worlds alongside them. **“I didn’t leave. I held my position until **Ubisoft** requested me to step down,”** he stated.

It’s worth mentioning that in their message to employees, **Vantage Studios** executives **Charlie Guillemot** and **Christophe Derennes** expressed disappointment at **Côté’s** decision to resign. However, they acknowledged and respected that **Côté** had his own expectations and priorities regarding the establishment of **Vantage Studios** and its future.
