Headline: Квантовая угроза: эксперт Картера предостерегает от игнорирования рисков для рынка биткоина Translation: Quantum Threat: Expert Carter Warns Against Ignoring Risks to the Bitcoin Market

Nick Carter, a partner at Castle Island Ventures, has criticized developers for overlooking the threat posed by quantum computing. He believes that the reluctance to acknowledge these risks is already putting pressure on the price of the leading cryptocurrency.

Carter’s comments were made in response to a series of posts by Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream. Previously, the cypherpunk stated that quantum technology is still in its infancy and will not pose a threat for decades. Back is convinced that even a breach of part of the encryption won’t lead to the theft of coins in the network.

According to Carter, there is a significant gap between capital holders and technical experts. Investors are anxious and seeking solutions, while developers are fully in denial about the issue.

The businessman pointed out that the current complacency contradicts the philosophy of «active paranoia» that is typically characteristic of the Bitcoin community. He highlighted key risk factors:

Craig Warmke, a member of the Bitcoin Policy Institute, supported this viewpoint. He believes that the fear of quantum technology is hindering the influx of new capital into digital gold and is prompting large holders to diversify their portfolios.

Warmke criticized developers for nitpicking terminology in response to concerns from everyday users. He stated that attempts to convince the public that the risk is zero are doomed to fail. The explanations will be too complex, and people tend to trust quantum physicists more than Bitcoin coders.

Experts agree that the only viable solution is to create a clear action plan in case of a breach. Having a contingency plan would help investors feel more at ease.

It’s worth noting that analyst Willy Woo believes that in the event of a hypothetical quantum attack on Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallets, «old whales» would protect the market.
