Hogwarts Legacy Sequel May Introduce Competitive Multiplayer Features

**Warner Bros. Games** appears to be gearing up for significant changes concerning the next installment of Hogwarts Legacy. This is suggested by a recently posted job opening for the studio **Avalanche Software**. The description mentions typical features associated with online games that have competitive elements, such as matchmaking, lobbies, and server infrastructure.

The original **Hogwarts Legacy** has emerged as one of the best-selling titles of 2023, maintaining a strong player base—just a few days ago, the publisher proudly announced sales reaching 40 million copies. Therefore, developing a sequel seems like a natural progression. However, indications suggest that this follow-up may diverge significantly from the single-player adventure format.

Previously, **Warner Bros.** job postings hinted at the development of an online RPG with a focus on a service-based model. Though specific franchises weren’t mentioned back then, the candidate requirements matched those typically associated with projects in the **Harry Potter** universe. Now, the new senior engineer position has intensified these suspicions. The job listing discusses supporting player data preservation, matchmaking, and lobby management, which are generally linked to PvP modes.

Fans have long criticized the first installment for lacking Quidditch and player duels. As such, many associate the mention of competitive systems with these features. Quidditch and magical dueling remain highly sought-after elements that some players felt were missing from the original game.

Interestingly, a standalone online Quidditch game titled Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is set to release in 2024. However, the project has not achieved significant success—currently, less than 100 players are active on Steam.

As of now, Hogwarts Legacy 2 has not been officially announced, and **Avalanche** has not confirmed that they are specifically working on a sequel. It is possible that the studio is simultaneously developing multiple projects: a full-fledged sequel as well as a separate online game set in the **Harry Potter** universe.
