Irina Rodnina: My Olympic Achievements Cant Be Erased from History

Three-time Olympic champion and ten-time world champion in pairs figure skating, currently a State Duma deputy, Irina Rodnina, commented on the recent ranking by the International Skating Union (ISU), which highlighted iconic Olympic moments but did not feature any Soviet or Russian skaters, including her own achievements.

«You can perhaps overlook the World Championships, but the Olympics are an integral part of history that cannot be erased. My successes and the results I achieved with my partners (as I did not accomplish this alone) are part of the historical narrative,» she told «Match TV.»

Among those deserving of recognition in the aforementioned ranking were Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean for their program «Bolero» in Sarajevo 1984, Brian Orser and Brian Boitano in Calgary 1988, Katarina Witt with «Carmen» in Calgary 1988, Sarah Hughes in Salt Lake City 2002, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in Vancouver 2010, Yuzuru Hanyu and Alena Savchenko with Bruno Massot in PyeongChang 2018, and Wenjing Sui and Cong Han in Beijing 2022.
