Kyiv Drone Attack: One Dead, Seven Injured Amid Ongoing Russian Strikes

A drone strike from Russia targeted the Ukrainian capital early Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries, as reported by officials in Kyiv.

Loud explosions were audible in the city around midnight, as noted by AFP reporters, with air defense units mobilizing to respond, authorities indicated.

“Enemy drones are in the city, with our air defenses active. There are several targets on the outskirts of the capital,» stated Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, in a Telegram post.

He later confirmed that one person had died and seven were injured, including a child.

The deceased was identified as a man.

Mayor Vitaly Klitschko urged residents to stay in shelters during the assault.

Damage was reported to residential buildings in various districts, as well as to vehicles, he added.

«There are currently seven people injured in the capital, with four needing hospitalization,» Klitschko mentioned in his Telegram update.

He had previously noted that among the injured was a 13-year-old child.

Mykola Kalashnyk, the governor of the Kyiv region, reported that two women suffered injuries in the town of Brovary.

“The enemy is launching substantial attacks on the Kyiv region using missiles and drones, targeting residential areas and homes,” Kalashnyk remarked.

Earlier this week, Russian assaults with drones and missiles struck Kyiv overnight, igniting fires in apartment complexes.

City officials reported that seven individuals lost their lives in those attacks.

These bombings coincide with a diplomatic initiative based on a U.S. plan aimed at resolving the conflict, which Kyiv fears could result in significant concessions to Moscow.

Ukrainian officials are anticipated to arrive in the U.S. this weekend for discussions on the proposal, according to a senior official informed about the situation.

The initial U.S. proposal — crafted without input from Ukraine’s European partners — suggested that Kyiv would have to withdraw from its eastern Donetsk region while the U.S. would effectively acknowledge the Donetsk, Crimea, and Luhansk regions as part of Russia.

After facing backlash from Kyiv and European nations, the U.S. revised the proposal, but the specifics of the current draft remain uncertain.
