Medvedev on Alexander Bublik: A Challenging Opponent for Everyone

The 2021 US Open champion and world number 14, Russian tennis player **Daniil Medvedev**, shared his thoughts on whether he finds Kazakhstani player **Alexander Bublik** to be a challenging opponent.

**— In a recent interview, Alexander Bublik mentioned that you are his most difficult opponent and that he has nightmares about you. How do you view him as a competitor?**
**— I would say this: I’ve faced tougher opponents in the past, but Sasha is undoubtedly capable of playing great tennis. He defeated me in the final in Halle this year, even though I played reasonably well. His serve can be very effective, and he has the ability to hit drop shots and volley well. So, playing against him is tough. Generally, I think all the matches we’ve had over the last three years have been quite close. He is a challenging opponent for everyone. However, I believe that right now the toughest opponent for him might be Sinner. So, if he said that about me, I suppose it’s a compliment, – conveyed Medvedev’s words to Championat’s correspondent Daniil Salnikov.

Daniil Medvedev and **Alexander Bublik** have faced each other eight times, with the Russian leading the head-to-head record 7-1. This season, they competed once at the grass-court tournament in Halle, Germany, where Bublik emerged victorious with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:4).
