MrBeasts AI Thumbnail Tool Sparks Controversy Over Copyright and Consent Issues

Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has retracted a new AI tool designed for creating thumbnail images that allowed users to replicate the styles of other creators.

“We removed that feature and instead introduced a funnel so content creators can connect with real artists for their thumbnails,” said the influencer, who boasts over 400 million subscribers on YouTube.

The $80-per-month tool enabled users to design thumbnails that imitated the visual styles, logos, and even faces of other YouTubers, raising concerns about consent, originality, and copyright on the generated content.

“What the hell… And he even used my logo for promotion. I hate what this platform has become. Screw AI,” commented fellow creator Jacksepticeye.

While the tool remains accessible on ViewStats, the function that allowed for face-swapping will be restricted for creators using their own images in thumbnails.

ViewStats, developed by Donaldson and Chaki Appleby, is a YouTube tool designed to help creators grow their channels and enhance their videos with integrated analytics features.

Previously, a deepfake video featuring Donald Trump calling for the return of velociraptors and pterodactyls to patrol the Mexican border went viral on X.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that in January, Hong Kong authorities arrested 31 members of a criminal organization involved in deepfake technology-related fraud.
