Nikolishin Reflects on His Debut Match with Neftekhamik: Key Takeaways and Areas for Improvement

Forward of Neftekhimik, Ivan Nikolishin, shared his feelings after making his debut for the club in the match against Avangard (1:2).

— It was a solid performance by our team. I believe we had good movement and created a lot of chances, but we struggled with finishing. I think that’s why we couldn’t secure a win today. It’s tough to win in the KHL with just one goal.

— You’ve just joined the team. How is the process of building rapport with your teammates going?
— It’s not too difficult. I previously played with Barulin in Khabarovsk, and I also know Yurtaikin from past encounters, so it’s been manageable. We had a chat before the game, and the coaching staff outlined their expectations, and we just aimed to support each other.

— In your opinion, what was the key factor today?
— I think it came down to finishing our chances. Throughout all three periods, we had opportunities, but again, I’ll say it’s tough to win with just one goal.

— What lessons can be taken from this match, and what should be improved for the next game?
— We need to maintain the same level of movement and mentality. The team was energized, and everyone was encouraging one another. It’s crucial to keep that spirit and approach our opportunities with greater responsibility, as well as to improve our special teams’ execution, — said Nikolishin, as reported by Neftekhimik’s press office.
