Nintendo Aims for Record-Breaking Sales with Increased Production of Switch 2

In just four days, sales of the Switch 2 have surpassed 3.5 million units, making it the fastest-selling console for Nintendo. The company doesn’t seem to intend to stop at this milestone. A recent report from Bloomberg suggests that Nintendo plans to produce 25 million Switch 2 units by the end of 2026 and has informed its manufacturing partners about this goal. If successful, this could lead to record-breaking sales in the console’s first year. Nintendo is particularly focusing on the winter holiday season, a time when people indulge in gift-giving for New Year and Christmas.

Analysts predict that sales of the Switch 2 for the fiscal year ending in March 2026 could reach 17.6 million units. However, Nintendo itself has set more modest expectations, aiming for 15 million Switch 2 consoles. Bloomberg noted that Nintendo has a solid chance of selling around 20 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of the fiscal year, based on shipping estimates from its assembly partners.

For comparison, the first year saw sales of 14.87 million Switch consoles (with 17.79 million sold in the first 13 months), while the PlayStation 5 achieved 17.3 million units sold in the same timeframe.
