OpenAI открывает новые горизонты с приложениями внутри ChatGPT Translation: OpenAI Opens New Horizons with Applications Inside ChatGPT

OpenAI has launched an app store for ChatGPT, enabling developers to introduce their own applications within the chatbot by submitting an application.

The first approved solutions are expected to be available in 2026, with highly sought-after tools potentially receiving priority recommendations from AI in the future.

In the app catalog, users can explore the available options, which can be found in the «Tools» menu or on the chatgpt.com/apps website.

Developers have the option to provide direct links on external platforms, facilitating user redirection to the app’s page in the catalog.

Once integrated, these applications can be activated during conversations using the @ symbol. The company is testing ways to display them contextually without explicit mentions, based on conversation context, usage patterns of third-party solutions, and user preferences.

To enable such integrations, OpenAI has introduced the Apps SDK, which allows for the incorporation of context and interactive functionalities directly into the ChatGPT interface.

«The most powerful applications have a clear focus, are intuitive within chat, and deliver clear value, either by completing real-world workflows that begin with discussion or by creating entirely AI-driven capabilities within ChatGPT,» states the startup’s blog.

Initially, developers will be allowed to redirect users to external resources for the purchase of physical goods, with additional monetization options being explored.

«In time, we want ChatGPT applications to be seen as a natural extension of the conversation—helping people transition from ideas to actions and establishing a sustainable ecosystem for developers,» OpenAI representatives noted.

In October, Sam Altman’s company unveiled the capability to create applications within ChatGPT. This feature enables users to interact directly with services like Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and others.

In December, Adobe tools, including Photoshop, Acrobat, and Express, were integrated into the chatbot. Users can design and edit images and PDF files directly within the chatbot interface.

Increased competition from Google and other AI firms prompted Altman to declare a «code red.»

It turned out that such a decision was not unprecedented. The startup’s leadership had previously asked employees to prioritize main objectives over secondary tasks.

«We do this when we want to focus efforts on one specific topic,» said OpenAI’s research director, Mark Chen.

The most recent «code red» declaration comes in the wake of growing popularity for solutions from Google and Anthropic. The Gemini AI service is rapidly gaining traction and is approaching ChatGPT in terms of popularity.

In November, Google launched its flagship model, Gemini 3, which is regarded as the best in the world. Soon after, they released a new version of the image generation tool, Nano Banana Pro.

Since the declaration of «code red,» OpenAI has rolled out several releases in reaction to American corporation solutions—GPT-5.2 and a new version of the image generator, ChatGPT Images, called GPT Image 1.5.

As a reminder, in December, Google released the Gemini 3 Flash language model and made it the standard in the Gemini application and AI mode within their search engine.
