OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated section for health-related consultations.

This initiative was developed with the collaboration of «hundreds of physicians» in response to a growing interest from users: according to the company, over 230 million individuals inquire about their health with the chatbot each week.

The new feature operates in a secure environment. Conversations in ChatGPT Health are kept separate from standard dialogues, safeguarded by specialized encryption, and do not mix with the main model’s memory. This ensures that medical information does not influence the context of ordinary chats.

Interactions take place in a familiar chat format, but the model takes into account the connected data. Users can ask questions like «How is my cholesterol changing?» or «Summarize my recent tests,» upload files and photos, and use voice mode.

In this section, users can also provide custom instructions, such as prioritizing certain issues or excluding unwanted topics.

ChatGPT does not diagnose or prescribe treatment. Its role is to assist users in interpreting information, analyzing data from applications like Apple Health or MyFitnessPal, and preparing for doctor’s visits.

For access to highly sensitive data—like electronic medical records—OpenAI has partnered with b.well, a platform that meets industry standards of HIPAA. All connections occur only with the user’s consent, who can revoke access at any time.

The development of ChatGPT Health involved collaboration with the medical community, with more than 260 physicians from 60 countries contributing to its creation and assessment over two years.

To ensure quality control, OpenAI has established a system called HealthBench. This system evaluates the AI’s responses based on clinical criteria rather than abstract accuracy, focusing on safety, clarity, the appropriateness of referring to specialists, and context consideration.

In the upcoming weeks, access to this section will be made available to all users of the web version and iOS. At the time of writing, the service is operating in a testing phase for a limited group in the United States.

As a reminder, in late December, OpenAI added the ability to personalize ChatGPT and launched an in-chat application store.
