The Belarusian tennis player and four-time Grand Slam champion, **Arina Sobolenko**, ranked as the world number one, suffered her first career defeat at a WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, China.

Her impressive 20-match winning streak came to an end in the semifinals, where she was defeated by the sixth-ranked American player, **Jessica Pegula** (6-2, 4-6, 6-7).

In Wuhan, Sobolenko had previously secured three consecutive titles in 2018, 2019, and 2024. The tournament was not held from 2020 to 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, the final of the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan will feature two American players: Jessica Pegula and Cori Gauff.
