Release of Wine 10.11 Enhances Windows Game Performance with New Features and Fixes

On June 27, 2025, a new experimental version of the open-source implementation of the Windows Win32 API for Linux, macOS, and BSD—**Wine 10.11**—was released. The release of **Wine 10.0** occurred earlier in January of this year.

With the launch of Wine 10.11, the project team, comprised of approximately 2,000 contributors, addressed 25 bug reports and implemented 292 changes to fix issues identified since the release of Wine 10.10. A significant portion of this work was carried out by 30 contributors.

In the Wine project, over 5,000 Windows applications have been verified to work fully, with more than 4,000 additional applications operating reliably with specific configurations and external DLLs.

The key changes and updates introduced in **Wine 10.11** include:

— Preparation for the inclusion of support for the NTSync driver, added in Linux kernel 6.14, which implements the character device /dev/ntsync and a set of synchronization primitives utilized in the Windows NT kernel. This kernel-level implementation of these primitives significantly enhances the performance of Windows games running through Wine, leading to notable performance increases by eliminating overhead associated with user-space RPC. For instance, using the ntsync driver resulted in a 678% increase in maximum FPS for the game **Dirt 3**, a 196% boost for **Resident Evil 2**, a 177% improvement for **Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands**, a 131% increase for **Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris**, a 125% rise for **Call of Juarez**, a 96% uptick for **The Crew**, a 48% improvement for **Forza Horizon 5**, and a 43% boost for **Anger Foot**.

— Enhanced support in the Wine Interface Definition Language (WIDL) for generating **Windows Runtime (WinRT)** metadata.

— Resolution of bug reports related to various applications, including **Mixcraft**, **Clang Static Analyzer**, **Anritsu Software Toolbox**, **WordPro**, **Far File Manager 3**, **Pegasus Email**, and **EZNEC pro2+ 7.0**.

— Bug fixes for numerous games, such as **Fallout 3**, **Diggles: The Myth of Fenris**, **Saya no Uta**, **C&C Generals Zero Hour**, **Genshin Impact**, **Purple Place**, **Kathy Rain 2**, **Among Us**, **Green Hell**, **Magic: The Gathering Arena**, **Doom I & II Enhanced**, **Thief II**, and **Bejeweled 3**, as well as **Sid Meier’s Civilization III**.
