Sennikov: Zenits Disjointed Play Leads to Overly Individualistic Approaches

Former Russian football player Dmitry Sennikov stated that «Zenit» currently lacks cohesion as a team and pointed out that players have begun to focus more on individual performances.

«Zenit» often plays from a position of strength, but there are certain areas where the team struggles with speed. In my view, «Zenit» can operate at a faster pace, similar to their match against «Orenburg.» However, for some reason, in other games, either the opponents prevent this from happening, or the players in St. Petersburg believe they can rely solely on their physicality and experience to secure victories. Unfortunately, this approach hasn’t been successful. At present, «Zenit» is somewhat disjointed as a team. The players are increasingly attempting to take matters into their own hands and play individually, whereas previously there was a stronger emphasis on teamwork, which often led to positive results. Nowadays, each player seems to aspire to create chances alone,» Sennikov remarked in an interview with «Championat» correspondent Vladislav Kruglov.
