Shigeru Miyamoto: Nintendo Prioritizes Thoughtful Growth Over Expansion for Its Own Sake

The legendary game designer **Shigeru Miyamoto**, known for creating iconic games such as Mario and the **The Legend of Zelda** series, has expressed that **Nintendo** is not focused on growth for the sake of growth. Instead, the company aims to grow thoughtfully, crafting enduring forms of entertainment and collaborating with external studios rather than becoming a massive corporation with endless departments.

During a meeting with investors, **Miyamoto** shared insights into **Nintendo’s** approach to film and other video formats. He mentioned that the initiative to expand beyond gaming into cinema emerged from a desire to create content that would endure for decades.

**Miyamoto** emphasized that **Nintendo** does not intend to «inflate its staff» to pursue new ventures. Rather, the company opts for partnerships with other studios—such as its collaboration with **Illumination** for the film **»The Super Mario Bros. Movie»** and an upcoming project based on **Super Mario Galaxy**. He noted that this strategy enables them to collaborate on equal footing with leading global content creators and produce projects relatable to audiences worldwide.

He also pointed out that **Nintendo Pictures** isn’t solely focused on producing large animated films; it serves more as a creative lab where the team explores innovative visual storytelling methods. One of their recent experiments is the short film **Pikmin: Close to You**.
