Splitgates New Identity Fails to Revive Interest: Arena Reloaded Struggles to Attract Players

The developers of Splitgate have faced challenging years. Initially, the studio 1047 Games discontinued support for the first game. Following that, Splitgate 2 was released amidst controversy and quickly began to lose its player base. An attempt to relaunch the game seemingly didn’t rectify the situation, as once again, interest from players waned.

On December 17, 1047 Games released SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded—an updated iteration of Splitgate 2, which launched in June of the previous year to a lukewarm response. Players had multiple grievances with the sequel of the portal shooter, including aggressive marketing featuring content creators, exorbitantly priced microtransactions, and two rounds of layoffs within just six weeks.

By July, the developers reverted the game to a «beta» status due to a significant drop in online players. The team later chose to completely overhaul the game’s concept and reintroduce it under a new brand. Initially, the relaunch attracted a few thousand players, but the interest was short-lived.

According to the available statistics from SteamDB, it’s evident how quickly interest has diminished. On the day of its release, the peak number of players for Arena Reloaded in Steam reached 2,297, but at the time of writing, the active player count has halved—just within two weeks. While data for consoles is unavailable, the overall trend appears to be quite disheartening.

It’s worth noting that the peak player count for the original Splitgate 2 at launch was 25,785—substantially higher than what SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded has managed to attract.

Even positive feedback regarding the improvements made doesn’t alter the broader perspective—many believe that the update arrived too late. This is further corroborated by gamer interest on Twitch, where the game attracts only about 65 viewers, whereas in its prime, Splitgate amassed over 138,000 concurrent views.

Currently, SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded can be played on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), as well as on Xbox and PlayStation. The shooter includes a text translation in Russian.
