Trump Accuses Ukraine of Lack of Gratitude Amid Ongoing Peace Talks in Geneva

On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his accusation that Ukraine is showing a lack of “gratitude” for the assistance it has received from Washington in the face of Russia’s invasion, as high-level representatives from both the U.S. and Ukraine convened in Geneva to discuss a proposal aimed at ending the war.

“UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS NOT SHOWN ANY APPRECIATION FOR OUR EFFORTS,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, expressing his ongoing frustration over the “HUMAN CATASTROPHE” of the conflict and criticizing his predecessor Joe Biden, but refraining from directly condemning Moscow.

Trump’s remarks about Ukraine and U.S. allies indicate his irritation with the ongoing war initiated by Russia. During his presidential campaign last year, he had claimed he could negotiate peace within a day.

Yet, his limited diplomatic attempts have achieved little progress, and he is now facing significant backlash from within his own party regarding the new 28-point proposal being discussed in Geneva, which appears to align with several important objectives of Russia’s military agenda.

While Trump has expressed disappointment in Putin previously, he seldom directly criticizes the Russian leader or denounces the invasion, instead directing pressure towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In his social media commentary on Sunday, he took issue with European nations for continuing to purchase oil from Russia and referred to Biden as “crooked Joe” for supplying Ukraine with weapons “free, free, free.”

The only reference to Putin in his extensive post suggested that the Russian president believed “Now is my chance!” to invade Ukraine due to “Sleepy Joe” Biden being in office.

Zelensky has repeatedly shown gratitude for the extensive military assistance from the U.S., which is actively being utilized in the battle against the occupying Russian forces along the lengthy front lines.
