Unveiling Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic – The End of an Era for the Old Republic and the Jedi

At the recent Game Awards 2025, game director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and creator of the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson, announced the upcoming release of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic — a new narrative-driven action RPG set in the Old Republic universe. This game is being developed in collaboration with Arcanaut Studios and LucasFilm Games. Shortly after the announcement, Hudson gave a brief interview on the official Star Wars website, where he shared the first insights about his new project.

During the discussion with Hudson, it was revealed that:

The studio Arcanaut was established in early 2025, shortly after Hudson faced setbacks with his previous team, Humanoid Origin. It’s worth noting that the Humanoid team was working on a «cross-platform AAA game in a sci-fi setting with a focus on storytelling and character development.» Unfortunately, the project fell through following the loss of investors, leading to the closure of the studio at the end of 2024. Alongside Hudson, Arcanaut also boasts a number of former BioWare employees.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is being developed using the Unreal Engine 5 for PC and unnamed consoles.
